First the address
then the contents
then the sender's details
Licking it closed
a tad out of fashion these days
Whatever happened to writing letters
The love, the longing,
the wait, the wonder
packed and posted.
On-time, delayed,
at times never to arrive
Address wrong, misspelt,
Someone having moved
without your knowledge
from whence the nostalgia
refuses to egress
Letter -openers
another of archaic,
extinct contraptions
An artifact misplaced
in the world of
notifications, e-mails
Not so much
the penmanship
or even the craft or make
The time, the emotions,
the feelings sealed
with (them) each
No clicking-opening of any
envelopes empty
can ever replace
The heart is still finding ways
to pour itself
through fonts, formatting and
emoticons that pale
next to the fragrance
of the dried up rose
waiting
in the empty envelope
that was
never posted.
